Gaff Topsail

I had this circled. I knew it was going to be a tough one. The last really big remote ride of the trip. 100k along the old rail-bed, climbing to the highest point we would reach here in Newfoundland. No roads, no services, just bush.
We were off early to try and get a good start. The T rail trail so far had been pretty rough and today it dolled out all she could offer: deep gravel, sand, washboard, deep ruts and encroaching bushes. It kept us on our toes and certainly caused slow progress and several close calls throughout the day. The peek we crossed over was called Gaff Topsail. Very interesting, name fitting, windy and bleak even the trees decided not to grow up there. After concentrating for 8 hours and a hot day to boot we were certainly done. Definitely type 2 fun.
Trail angel Rob gave us water, beer and apples. It’s always so nice to meet such friendly generous people along the route. Rob’s generosity helped us push through to Badger. Ended up at the local restaurant and had a great turkey dinner, NFLD style. Probably 8000 calories. Luckily we needed all of them.
